Payout hit your bank but PropStax shows the old balance
You requested a payout from a funded account. The money landed in your bank. But you open PropStax and the account balance is still showing the pre-payout amount. What happened, and what do you do?
Why this happens
PropStax updates balances on Sync. Until your next sync runs, the balance shown is whatever the broker reported the last time you synced — which might have been before the broker disbursed the payout.
Brokers also vary in how they reflect payouts:
- Some brokers debit the account immediately when you request the payout.
- Some debit only when the payment actually leaves their bank (could be days later).
- Some don’t debit at all, expecting you to track payouts on your own.
So even after a sync, the broker-reported balance may or may not reflect the payout yet.
What to do
First: run Sync. Go to Sync in the sidebar and run it for the broker that paid you. This pulls the most recent balance.
If the sync brings in the new (debited) balance, PropStax will usually detect the unexplained drop and ask you to classify it via the Balance adjustments walkthrough. Pick Payout, enter your profit split percentage, save. Done — the payout is now logged with the right gross/net split.
If after the sync the balance still hasn’t changed (broker hasn’t debited yet), the broker hasn’t reflected it on their end. You have two options:
- Wait and re-sync later — once the broker debits, the next sync will catch it.
- Log the payout manually now — go to Financials → Add payout, pick the account, enter the gross amount you requested, your profit split, and the date the money hit your bank. The payout shows in your financial history immediately.
If you log manually AND the broker later debits, the next sync’s Balance adjustments walkthrough may flag the same payout again. Click Dismiss — you already logged it.
When the payout is broker-total
If the broker paid out a lump sum that covered multiple funded accounts and you don’t want to attribute it per-account, use Broker total mode in the Add payout popup. The payout shows on the broker’s Financials summary but doesn’t appear on any single Account detail page.
What it looks like once everything reconciles
The account’s Equity curve will show a dip on the day of the payout (the dotted Balance line drops by the gross amount). The solid P&L line doesn’t move — payouts don’t affect trading P&L. On Financials, the payout row shows up dated the day the money was disbursed.
