Commissions and fees by broker

Every personal broker connection gets its own tab at Settings → Commissions & fees (the section appears once you have a personal account). What the tab lets you do depends on whether the broker’s data feed reports what the broker actually charges:

  • Declared rates. Some feeds deliver every fill but not its cost. AMP through CQG and AMP through Rithmic both work this way, so until PropStax knows your rates that trading shows as gross P&L. You declare per-side rates on the Rates tab, and every affected trade reprices to net.
  • Reported fees. Tradovate reports the exact commission and exchange, clearing and NFA fees on every fill, and PropStax stores them as they arrive. Its Rates tab is a notice, not an editor: there is nothing to enter, and net P&L already includes the fees. A trade whose fees are not known yet shows a dash for its net.
  • Not yet verified. A broker PropStax has not checked shows the Rates editor with a note saying so. Rates you enter there price its trades.

On the prop side, a Rithmic account’s commission is the figure Rithmic reports on each fill, and whether the exchange, clearing and NFA fees are inside it is not verified. On a prop Rithmic account’s page, the stats row says Commission, as reported by Rithmic, so a net result that looks a little better than your statement has a named reason. A personal Rithmic account is priced from the rates you declare and carries no such note.

Rates

The Rates tab holds one or more rate periods per symbol for the selected broker — because your rate can change over time, each period is dated and applies from its start day until the next one begins.

  • Pick a Symbol, then Add rate period.
  • Each period row shows its per-side rate, when it starts, an optional cost breakdown, and a note — with Edit and Delete.
  • Awaiting a rate lists symbols that showed up in your data but have no rate yet — their trades stay gross until you add one.
  • If you see No symbols yet, PropStax has no data for that broker to price — sync it first (on CQG you can also import older history from Upload, below).

When you save, PropStax reprices on the spot if it can — Saved — n trades repriced — or on your next sync if not.

Setting a rate period

Add rate period opens a form. Rates are per side, per contract — charged on both the entry and the exit:

  • Symbol and Effective from (trading day) — the day this rate starts applying.
  • Choose how you enter it:
    • Total per side — one Per-side total ($ / contract) figure, if that’s all you know.
    • Breakdown — enter the parts separately: Commission, Exchange fee, NFA fee, and an optional Clearing fee, each per side. PropStax adds them up.
  • This rate ends on a specific day — tick it and set a Last covered day (inclusive) if the rate stopped; otherwise it runs until your next period starts.
  • Note (optional) — for your own reference.

Symbol matching

The Symbol matching tab lists the symbols in the selected broker’s trade history with their descriptions. What you can change depends on the feed:

  • Rithmic and Tradovate use the exchange’s own symbols, so nothing needs matching. Every row is locked; the list is there to show what PropStax found and what each symbol is.
  • CQG names some products its own way — its EP is CME ES. PropStax matches each symbol from the CQG symbol table. A matched row shows a pencil; click it if a match is wrong, then Save, or use the restore arrow to go back to the automatic match. Rows marked same as CME are locked because the table confirms the symbol is the same. A row marked not in the symbol table yet is locked too: the table has not caught up with that product, and it prices as itself until it does.

One rate covers every contract month of a symbol (ESH6 and ESU6 are both priced as ES).

Upload history

The first CQG sync only reaches back about a month. To price and chart older trading, open Upload in the sidebar, choose the Personal tab, then CQG execution history. That opens Upload CQG history — “Backfill trade history beyond the 30 days CQG lets us retrieve.”

  1. Download template for the spreadsheet format (or use a CQG Orders export).
  2. Choose the timezone the report was created in, so trade times land correctly.
  3. Map each account in the file — Create new account to track a new one, or Skip this account. Nothing is created unless you say so.
  4. Start import, then review the summary of what was parsed and paired.

Once your trades are saved, PropStax rebuilds the daily totals that the dashboard, the calendar and Reports read. If that step fails, the summary says Trades saved, daily totals not rebuilt. Your trades are kept. Click Retry to run Reprocess Trades on your CQG trades, and the line changes to Daily totals rebuilt. If the retry fails too, the line says so and you can try again. If it is still running after a minute, the line says Daily totals are still rebuilding.

When it’s done, set your per-side rates on the Rates tab so the backfilled trades price to net too.

Reprocess Trades

Reprocess Trades applies your current rates to every trade from the broker, then rebuilds your daily totals and lifetime figures from those trades. It changes none of your rates and is safe to run at any time.

The Rates tab offers it in a notice when an update of your trades did not finish. The notice stays until a run finishes cleanly. A run on a long history can take a while: if it is still going after a minute, PropStax tells you it is still working, and if it never finishes, the notice comes back.

Where the net shows up

Once rates are in, net P&L flows everywhere the Personal dashboard, Reports, and Calendar show trading results — and the Net / Gross toggle lets you flip between the two. This is per-trade commission only; account-level charges like data subscriptions live in the personal cash ledger.
